Getting Ready

So this is my first post, and I'm sitting here, my house half packed, Georgia (15 months) and Trifon (3 years) out of sorts and on my nerves, waiting on packers that were suppose to be here today.  But in typical bureaucratic fashion one department didn't realize we were moving to South American (an uncommon military destination) and had to send our request for packers to another department.  So now my poor husband, Ray, has to miss part of his family reunion to sit in the house while they pack us up.

We are also waiting on our visas.  But this is something to be expected I guess.  What I gathered from the passport office on post is that the Colombian issuing agency pretty much waits till the last minute, based on your travel dates.  So despite all the hurry up and wait, we will probably still get out of here at the end of the month.

Anyway,  I guess I can tell you all what my plan is here.  Mostly it is to keep those that know us informed about our adventures.  While most of my military friends are somewhat familiar with overseas moves, not may Army families end up in South America.  The infrastructure most are use to when moving to the more common overseas locations are just not there in Bogota Colombia.  Our main support will be the American Embassy.  I hear it is a large community, but I have nothing to compare it too.

So as we get ready to depart  in 10  days,  I can believe this is really happening.  I am anxious to experience the realities that are.  Either way, the joys and struggles of raising two young children so far from the familiar will make for many interesting stories to share!
